Halloween Blues

This is our third Halloween together, but the first one where we live in a neighborhood full of kids - which means trick or treaters. I love love love Halloween... or any holiday, for that matter, and while Jeff isn't all that excited about holidays, he tends to put on a smile for my sake.
Since things have been so incredibly busy we put off buying pumpkins until Saturday, thinking that we could carve them Saturday in time for trick or treaters on Sunday. Since our neighborhood is about half lds kids and half not, I figured that we would have a good mix of kids on both Saturday and Sunday, which was awesome! Halloween that lasts 2 days? Heck yes, sign me up!

For those of you who don't know, LDS members, or "Mormons" believe in keeping the Sabbath day holy, which means different things to different people. In our household we don't work and do our best not to buy anything on Sunday so that other people don't have to work on Sunday because of us, and in general, we try to treat Sunday as a day of rest. It's been a huge blessing in our lives to be able to devote one day to nothing but going to church, and resting. :)
However, because Sunday is a "day of rest", you can understand how some people would think that Trick-Or-Treating could be inappropriate. Here's my idea about that - you could have your kids go trick-or-treating for an hour, or you could tell them that they can't trick or treat, and they'll mope about it all day. But that's just my personal idea about it.

Anyways...
So on Saturday I passed out candy, got the porch all set up so people could see that we were clearly handing out candy, and Jeff and I watched some cheesy (not-so) scary movies. It was perfect. I wasn't really ready for the trick or treaters, but I knew I would be the next day.
Then Sunday came around, and I was excited for the rush of kids! After all, it wasn't raining like it was on Saturday.
5:00 - nothing, but it was still early.
6:00 - nothing. I lit the pumpkins and moved the car to make sure the whole neighborhood could see that we were open for business.
7:00 - nothing. at this point I got pretty sad. I wasn't prepared for Halloween to be over yet!
8:00 - I hear a knock at the door, and I get so excited, I SPRINT to the door, to see my husband and our dog dressed up in their Charlie Brown and Snoopy costumes.

Needless to say, I have the greatest husband in the world.

Even though this is our third Halloween together, it's our first one carving pumpkins. We're both pretty out-of-practice, and I was really missing my dad's power tools to be able to drill through all the pumpkins... but we did pretty well.

Buddy kind of hated the ears I made him.

Overall, it was a pretty great Halloween. :)
(even if it did have to end early)

  1. I love love love the pumpkins! And I love the part about Jeff coming to the door with buddy, he is so good to you :]

Even though Halloween ended early, the bright side is that at least now you can start getting ready for Christmas!!
