today, my baby ordered porn.

Maddie was playing around with the TV remote today while I was making her a snack in the kitchen. All of a sudden, I hear the TV making weird moaning noises, when I walk in and see a PPV porno playing on the TV. I laughed, turned it off, and gave her a snack, being more concerned about the upcoming bill than my one year old being exposed to 30 seconds of women making out together.

Later that day I took maddie swimming. She's seriously an awesome swimmer, and I've even got her semi-dog paddling towards the wall when I ask her to. (this is what happens when your mom used to teach swim lessons to toddlers - she forces you in the pool and dunks you underwater before you're even aware of how to use your arms.)

A woman came up to me and said, "Oh, I LOVE your daughter's swimsuit!"
"Thank you," I said, very pleased with myself. There really is nothing cuter than babies and swimsuits. There's something about how their bellies stick out and they waddle around that swimsuits make them look even cuter.
"I just love that swimsuit," she continued, "it's so sexy. What a sexy baby."

WHAAAAT? Did this woman seriously just call my one-year-old sexy? I didn't know whether to laugh or run away yelling, "pedophile in the pool!"
I was really tempted to say "huh, it must have been from all that porn she watched this morning."

Instead I just laughed and said "ha, I didn't think babies could be sexy..." and swam away.

The moral of the lesson is that parenting can be really weird. And don't buy adorable swimsuits for your children, because then the weirdos will come out and talk to you about them.

a day in the life of a happy baby

She plays hard...

and she sleeps hard.

and yes,  all of this was in the same day.

nursing a crazy baby

I've heard a few stories of babies lovingly learning to reach up for their mother's faces while being nursed. Some play with their mothers' ears, a few of my nephews reached for their mom's chin, just to make sure she's still there.

So I was pretty excited when maddie started learning to reach. I was hoping she would lovingly put her hand on my face to make sure I was still there.

and reach for me, she does. she puts her hand up to my face and shoves her fist into my mouth any chance she gets. she thinks it's the funniest thing in the world. Not exactly what I was thinking of... but I wouldn't expect anything less from her. She definitely has her own personality.

Mobile Maddie

For a few weeks now, we would put maddie on the floor for tummy time, leave the room, and come back only to find her on the opposite side of the room.

It was a big mystery considering she isn't crawling, and isn't supposed to be crawling yet for a couple months.

well, today we finally witnessed it. She is officially crawling... backwards. and only backwards.

So not only is my baby ahead of the game, she's also an innovator... sort of.

Either way, I am proud of her.

another milestone this week: maddie has learned to reach up for either Jeff or I when she wants to be picked up. The first time it happened, I went to go get her after she woke up from her morning nap, and she looked right at me, smiled, and reached. I started crying!
Jeff rushed into the room to see what was wrong, and then tried to get maddie to reach for him. It didn't work. Instead, she nearly fell out of his arms trying to reach for me again. :) She's definitely a mamma's girl!

Catching up

Maddie is growing more and more every day. I swear there are days I wake up and think "who replaced my baby with this big one?"

My mother asks me every single time I talk to her "when are you going to put up more pictures of maddie?" and I laugh, because typically I just put up new pictures the day before. So to pacify her (for at least a few days,) here's a giant maddie post, so everyone can get their fix.

Maddie's got the gift of gab

sorry for the shaky camera. Maddie talks to me every time we have tummy time. She'll even wait for me to say something back and then continue to babble once I've finished. pretty dang cute.

ps - check out her super cute grown up outfit, thanks to nana. :)

Our first couple weeks

I've been so blessed to have Jeff here at home with me the last two weeks. Not only has it helped me with my recovery, but it has honestly felt like a vacation... a sleep-deprived one, but nonetheless, it has almost been like our honeymoon all over again, just getting to know each other as parents and falling in love all over again.

well, enough of that cheesy stuff.

We've become obsessed with taking pictures of Madison, so here they are. Our first week together as a family.

Maddie's First bath. at first she liked it...
and then she didn't like it.

all bundled up to go to the first pediatrician appointment

our attempt at swaddling. poor little worm.

Then, yesterday Jeff and I decided to go to the park. But we didn't realize it would be so windy, so Maddie and I stayed inside the car while Jeff took buddy to go play in the snow.

maddie was not ok with the cold.

buddy loved it.

Buddy has been really sweet to Maddie.
